NSlookup timing out after two seconds

Solution

If you are on a server and NSlookup times out then check have you got a DNS server name and IP. If not then check this knowledgebase for an answer first.

If it has but doesnt return say bbc.co.uk then

Control Panel > administrative tools>DNS server

Right click on server (example -SERVER01) select properties>forwarders, make sure there is a public DNS server like 8.8.8.8. If not edit it and save it.

NS lookup returns unknown but with correct IP

When NS lookup retrurns ::1

Cannot connect to a sub directory in a shared drive when the rest of it is fine.
